A Frost is coming!

To be honest Dreamworks CG features have been a little hit and miss for me, I had no problems with the first Shrek (aside from the avalanche of cruddy CG films is influenced studios to fast track), I didn’t really like what I saw of Sharktale, Madagascar was forgettable fun but the designs were pretty rad (I thought the sequel was ok too), Over the Hedge was great and completely underated, Bee Movie burnt my eyes, Kung Fu Panda fixed my burnt eyes and made me uber happy then Monsters Vs Aliens bored the snot out of me. Their next film is How to Train Your Dragon and so far it’s got me pretty interested….for one it’s got Dragons, and two, Chris Sanders (of Lilo & Stitch fame) is directing and, by the looks of the dragon in the trailer below, he also has a heavy hand in character design…

So yeah, definitely looks like it could have potential but I guess we’ll have to wait and see. For now though…I’ll be there with bells on….and people will request the belled man be removed from the cinema and I won’t go easily.

Anyway, I wasn’t really planning on writing a Dreamworks post, I was actually intending to talk about their film after How to Train Your Dragon. The film is called The Guardians and is based on the yet to be released book The Guardians of Childhood by William Joyce. The Film (set to release in 2012) revolves around a team of five “Guardians” made up of Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Jack Frost, the Sandman and the Tooth Fairy. The story sees the main characters using their combined power to stop Pitch, an evil spirit with plans of world domination. I know…sounds kinda weird but I’m always up for a “superhero” team-up and anything that supports “guarding childhood” is A.O.K in my books. More importantly though, I found what appears to be an early look at the Jack Frost character design…

There’s something I really like about the character design…..not sure what it is. Seems a little darker for Dreamworks. Visual effects artist and animator Jeff Lynch makes his feature directorial debut with The Guardians. I’m definitely interested to see more. What about you?
