Stop Motion

All The Same

With the tiny budgets NZ music videos get you very rarely see awesome animation like this, especially of the stop-motion variety.  Neil Bond is a local stop-motion animator, he’s got a sweet body of work over on his site but his latest creation really shows off his talent. It’s a music video for Auckland hip hop sensation ‘PHD’ and was shot all “in camera” using a Canon 550D…

Accumulonimbus

Not only can Andy Kennedy created cool 2D animation for kids shows (see below) in his spare time he also makes independent films, using clay no-less. This cool short was created by stop motion animating clay on glass and is ” a meditation on motion and the life cycle of matter”…

Nyanya!

Here’s a cute little character study of a cat and a butterfly created by the South Korean stop-motion animator Manzizak.

Out Of A Forest …

Here’s an awesome stop motion music video out of Denmark.  Directed by Tobias Gundorff Boesen, it was shot in the forests surrounding Viborg!…

When I Am King…

Here’s a new stop motion video that uses an old wood burning technique called pyrography. It was directed by Sverre Fredriksen, a young animator from Norway who has settled in Amsterdam, who soldered ten tons (or thereabouts) of timber to create the images – averaging five hours of work per second shown. Everything was done analog, nothing digital… AWESOME!

Skatemation!

Here’s a cool “paper cut out” stop-motion short, created by Tilles Singer. I’ve seen some cool stuff like this before but this has some really nice touches…

Coldplay does Chalk

This is a trailer for the latest Coldplay video, and it’s just plain crazy, the amount of hours put into this melts my brain. It’s been voted by many to be the best animated music video of 2009, we couldn’t agree more…

THE FULL VIDEO CAN BE SEEN HERE…

It was created bu the Uber talented Shynola

Flippin’ Awesome!!

This amazing little short is made by Serene Teh, a student in Singapore, and it hurts my brain…

Mr Fox is FANTASTIC…

We had the chance to go see Wes Anderson’s stop-motion adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic “Fantastic Mr. Fox” and need to tell you guys how cool it was! When we first saw the trailer we were a bit weirded out by the “taxidermy” look to the puppets and the american accents so we weren’t sure what to expect going into the theatre, but what we did get was great fun and a lot of laughs! This is  a true Wes Anderson film, and if you’re a fan of any of his previous films you’ll notice his style of film making almost immediately and it’s really refreshing, it really does feel like an old British film from our childhood, even with the American voice cast, who, by the way, were all outstanding!!

So GO SEE IT, the animation isn’t anything up to the standard of Coraline but that adds to the charm of the whole film!

And here’s some really cool concept art from the film by Chris Appelhans

And John Martz over at Drawn did an awesome interview with storyboard artist Christian DeVita

Also, here’s a cool “Behind The Scenes” Featurette:

I'M READY….

This is one of the coolest things I’ve seen in ages, Lineboil have posted the awesome new stop-motion intro for the 10th anniversary Spongebob special!

It’s made by the awesome guys at Screen Novelties (they also made all the awesome stop-motion animation in Chowder)
